Jerome C. Bernhoft, M.D.
Dr. Bernhoft practices general orthopedic surgery with a special interest in total joint replacement and sports medicine at Muir Orthopaedic Specialists. A local resident, he supported the community by serving as team physician for the San Ramon Valley High School for many years.
Dr. Bernhoft began practicing orthopedic medicine in 1973 after receiving his medical degree from Northwestern University and completing his internship at San Francisco General Hospital. His Army service in Okinawa prepared him for a challenging residency at the University of California, San Francisco, where he gained valuable experience along with a notable bedside manner. Upon completion, he began a successful private practice in Fargo, North Dakota that flourished for over 15 years.
My Approach to Orthopedic Treatment
I believe in treating the patient, not just the condition. By combining state-of-the-art techniques with 30 years of experience I administer procedures that get results. My genuine concern for my patients helps accelerate treatment by developing relationships based on mutual respect and trust.
Over the years I have learned that I must first be a good listener. I develop a dialogue, through which myself and my patients understand the diagnostic process, their own unique problem, their treatment choices, and the recovery process.
I was recently named the 2004 Physician of the Year by the Medical Staff at San Ramon Regional Medical Center for providing outstanding and compassionate patient care. Some of the nominees had a lot to say why I was so deserving of this award. “Dr. Bernhoft is a hardworking surgeon…who always serves as an example to others for compassionate care. He is dearly loved by his patients and respected by all of the doctors.” Other comments included, “He quietly goes about doing a great job. Dr. Bernhoft is one of the most respectable human beings I’ve ever met.”
I know that one of my challenges is to continually grow in knowledge of medical and surgical advances and incorporate these advances as practice skills on the highest possible level toward the solution of patient’s medical problems. After 30 years of providing orthopedic care, I am still passionate about my work, in a time of wonderful potential.
